Sea Turtles and Tea

My past weekend had a sort of sea-creature/tea/music-theme.  In fact, I saw so many sea turtles and drank so much tea that I hardly know where to begin.

I find that nail polish is always a good place to start.  First (in a fit of girlishness and fashion magazine reading) I decided to paint my nails in what is supposed to be the new fall trend: one shade lighter/pinker than my skin color.  This was slightly trickier than I anticipated now that my fingers are a real skin color as opposed to the deathly translucent they tended towards in Oregon.

Okay, nail polish: check! Saturday night and it was time to get dressed and head down to ChiTo (or Chinatown for those of you not subjected to Kendle's and my company often enough) for the Ramblin' for Raegan benefit concert at Ong King Arts Center.  Located on the second floor of an almost decrepit, graffiti-ed building, Ong King was not where you'd expect to find an art gallery.  But, it's perfumed chambers   and heartfelt music made up for whatever misgivings I had.  The artwork by someone named R. Kelly, was an amazing mystical fusion of Starry Night and post-apocalyptic science fiction.

An Octopus!
After recognizing it as tea, I tried kava for the first time.  A punch bowl of that murky liquid kept the crowd numbed in the tongue-region for the majority of the evening.  My half-gourd of kava was just about enough for me, and I'm glad I tried it.

On top of the amazing artwork and mellow vibe, the music was phenomenal.  Kendle's favorite Honolulu band, Narwhal, is calling it one of their best shows.  I had the pleasure of hearing Discord and Rye for the first time and was duly impressed. Unfortunately we were too sleepy to stay for campfire, though they're a super fun band to listen to.

Sunday was even more relaxing than the day before.  Kendle and I popped up to Hale'iwa for an afternoon of sunbathing and long awaited beach-time.  After diligently checking the Internet for jellyfish warnings, I wasn't expecting any surprises at the beach.  Guess what!?

SEA TURTLE!

And there wasn't just one! There were at least fifty of these massive dudes rolling around in the water as far as the eye could see.
You can't actually see in this picture,
but the water is full of  sea turtles.
For someone who can remember seeing only one sea turtle in her life (and that was actually several weeks ago at the same beach) seeing fifty was breathtaking.

Well, that about sums up my weekend.  Here's a Monday night, Pearl City sunset in traffic to conclude:

It always looks better in person.
